We have commenced buddy reading this year from the 2nd of June to the 20th of June. Buddy reading encourages young readers to develop their enjoyment of reading and aids them with words and phrases that they don’t understand. For infant children their Senior Buddy will read to them discussing the story and showing them the pictures. In 1st and 2nd class the junior buddy reads. The two children begin reading in unison and when the Junior Buddy signals, the Senior Buddy stops reading but keeps track of hat their partner is reading. If the Junior Buddy makes a mistake the Senior Buddy joins in again and continues until is signalled to stop. Pupils discuss the story at intervals with their Senior Buddy leading discussion about their chosen book. Thank you to Ms. Mc Gowan for organising Buddy Reading for all students.
