Every year a GAA football coach visits the school and delivers a series of training sessions for students from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. For many children it is their first and perhaps only engagement with Gaelic games. The philosophy of Gaelic games in primary school is one of participation, to introduce children to the games and offer them an opportunity to play them. The hope of introducing primary students to Gaelic games is that if they are not members of a club that they will join one or that if they do not wish to continue playing when they leave school, that they can say that at one stage of their lives they played Gaelic games. GAA endeavours to give students the perception that GAA is one of an inclusive, child-centred association.
